Life is a journey, and at times, it can present significant challenges. There are moments when we all reach a point where additional support and encouragement are essential.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time helping in my mom’s in-home daycare, taking care of the kids who attended. I really enjoyed being a part of their lives and learning how to support them. That sense of caregiving has stayed with me throughout my life. Over the last 17 years, I’ve worked at Duke University in various roles, which has exposed me to people from all walks of life. I’ve met individuals at different stages of their journeys, and those experiences have shaped my ability to listen with empathy, offer compassion, and understand people in a way that’s essential for my work as a counselor.
When I’m working with clients, my goal is to create a calm, nonjudgmental environment where they feel safe and comfortable enough to open up. I believe trust is key, and I want everyone who comes to me to feel genuinely cared for. I’m deeply passionate about helping clients identify their goals—whether they’re mental, social, or spiritual—and work towards them in meaningful ways. I also recognize that faith and spirituality can be an important part of healing for many people, so I’m open to integrating that aspect into the counseling process when it’s relevant to my clients.
I understand that everyone’s mental health journey is unique, and I approach counseling with the mindset that each person requires a personalized approach. I’m particularly interested in working with individuals ranging from 16 years old to adults who are facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family conflict, grief, life transitions, marital/premarital issues, OCD, parenting struggles, self-esteem concerns, trauma, and PTSD.
Outside of my professional life, I love spending time with my husband and our two kids. Cooking, baking, crafting, and doing puzzles are some of my favorite hobbies. These activities help me unwind and recharge, keeping me grounded as I continue my work with others.
I am so excited for you to be taking this step, and I would be honored to be a part of your healing process as your counselor.
