Healing Trauma
Traumatic experiences can profoundly impact your mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. Whether you’ve faced a single overwhelming event or years of chronic stress, trauma can get “stuck” in the nervous system—showing up as anxiety, shutdown, hypervigilance, intrusive memories, or relationship triggers. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Brainspotting are two powerful, evidence-based approaches that help the brain and body process unresolved experiences so you can feel calmer, clearer, and more in control.
Understanding Trauma
Trauma encompasses a wide range of distressing events, including:
Physical or sexual abuse
Emotional or verbal abuse
Neglect or abandonment
Accidents or natural disasters
Witnessing violence
Sudden loss of a loved one
Chronic illness or medical trauma
These experiences can lead to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, flashbacks, and difficulties in personal relationships. What you’re experiencing is a normal trauma response. But, help is available.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is short for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. It is a therapeutic tool used to help clients reprocess painful events from their past. A trauma therapist accomplishes this through a technique called bilateral stimulation. This means we stimulate both the left and the right sides of your brain. An EMDR therapist will provide this using handles that vibrate, tapping both sides of the body, or waving a finger to move your eyes from left to right. The goal is this treatment is to move the past trauma from the emotional side of your brain to the logical side. This way, your brain can process it and help you feel less triggered by memories of what happened in the past.
EMDR therapy has been shown to:
Reduce symptoms of PTSD
Alleviate anxiety and depression
Improve self-esteem and confidence
Enhance emotional regulation
Strengthen interpersonal relationships
By processing traumatic memories, EMDR enables you to move forward without being hindered by past experiences.
EMDR Intensives
Our EMDR Intensives are designed for clients who want focused, accelerated healing in a shorter period of time. Unlike traditional weekly sessions, intensives allow you to spend several hours in concentrated therapeutic work, helping you process traumatic memories, reduce emotional distress, and regain a sense of calm and control. This format is ideal for individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, or overwhelming life experiences who are seeking faster relief and deeper progress. With personalized planning, pre- and post-support, and a compassionate therapist to guide you, EMDR Intensives offer a powerful way to experience meaningful change in days rather than months.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy that helps identify and process trauma stored in the nervous system by using where you naturally look (your “brainspot”) to access deeper emotional and physiological healing. It can be especially helpful when experiences feel hard to explain, when talk therapy hasn’t fully resolved symptoms, or when your body reacts before your mind catches up. Brainspotting is often experienced as gentle but powerful—supporting processing without requiring you to retell every detail of what happened.
