Katie Blasko, LMFTA

Just like filing taxes, something school doesn’t prepare us for in the real world is how to build a successful romantic relationship. Your romantic relationship is one of the most important relationships you’ll have in life, and although it should be no surprise that you weren’t given the tools to manage certain difficulties, relationship problems can create feelings of failure and hopelessness. Instead of relying on contradictory friend advice or unreliable internet articles, you can meet with a couples therapist like me who is trained in research-based methods of helping you improve your relationship.

I’m Katie, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate. My lifelong passion is helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of relationships. In particular, I specialize in couples with communication difficulties, life transitions, grief/loss, infidelity, trauma, pre-marital concerns, chronic health issues, LGBTQIA+ specific issues, and that missing “spark.” Whether you’re in a new relationship or you’ve been together for 60 years, couples therapy is a great place to enhance your bond with your partner.

Here are some common but distressing problems we can work on together:

  • You don’t feel understood by your partner even when you try to explain yourself clearly

  • You feel frustrated, scared, or ashamed of how arguments have been going lately

  • You struggle to express your needs without upsetting your partner

  • You question whether past trauma is playing a role in your relationship

  • You can’t seem to move past a breach of trust

  • You feel hopeless as old patterns continue in your new relationship

My therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence-based techniques, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These modalities have been proven to be highly effective in improving communication, building trust, and strengthening overall relationship satisfaction. My background in health psychology allows me to use a holistic, biopsychosocial perspective to get a full picture of your relationship and understand what is at the heart of your concerns. Therapy shouldn’t just treat the symptoms—we can address the core issues between you and your partner for lasting improvement. My goal is to help couples gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed without my continued guidance, and I am continuously expanding my knowledge and skills to provide the best care possible for my clients.

When I’m not working with couples, you’ll likely find me reading a good book, traveling, or playing with my cats in a patch of sunlight.

Finding the right therapist is essential! If you’d like to schedule an initial appointment with me, please feel free to book your appointment online or call us at 919-551-7222. I look forward to hearing from you!
